No one wants to feel sour, but the Sour Kush strain is a whole different story.
This hybrid masterpiece packs the best of both indica and sativa. Being pleasantly pungent yet sweetly citrus, it demands attention in the best way possible. It’s a great choice for those looking to feel uplifted without a strong sedative effect. Season users may also find the THC sparks their creativity—and appetite!
Flavour-wise, you can expect a tangy citrus and diesel combination, balanced with earthy hints of wood. It’s a tasty blend of flavours you might have already come to know and love in your strains. Or, if you’re unfamiliar with the profile, it might just become your new favourite!
Now, let’s take a closer look at the Sour Kush strain and why it’s definitely a worthwhile addition to your stash.
Check it out!
Let’s go back to the beginning.
Sour Kush, also known as Sour OG Kush, gets its genes from parent strains OG Kush and Sour Diesel. Originally cross-bred to perfection by DNA Genetics, this indica-dominant hybrid strain knows exactly how to get you to relax without clouding your thoughts.
The strain, which has a rich history, is credited to Colorado breeder Reserva Privada. They are sub-division of DNA Genetics, a conglomerate of West Coast American breeders. Sour Kush has been commonly referred to as “headband” for the pressurized feeling some users feel on their temples due to facial blood vessel dialation.
Its regular and feminized varients are known as photoperiods, meaning their growth cycle is dependant on light cycles. However, it also has an autoflower variation that will flower no matter what happens with the light cycles.
On average, it contains 20% to 23% THC and less than 1% CBD. THC is the primary psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, responsible for the plant’s intoxicating effects. CBD is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid, meaning it does not produce a high.
All in all, you can expect a more psychoactive experience out of Sour Kush given where it comes from and its contents!
A strain can be defined by several characteristics, but most people want to know how it looks, how it smells, how it tastes, and what terpenes it contains. We’ve decided to make it easy for you by breaking down all of these qualities in further detail below.
There’s no denying that the Sour Kush strain is quite the looker.
It’s known for its dense and tightly packed structure, as well as its attention-grabbing bright green and orange pistils. Basically, if you’re thinking that this strain looks like a party it’s because it totally is one.
This strain was made for the cannabis connoisseurs who crave punchy aromatics and flavours in their flowers. On inhalation, you can look forward to sour lemon, earthy pine, and skunky diesel.
What can we say—the Sour Kush strain demands to be noticed. It’s extremely pungent, so we recommend storing it in a vacuum-sealed bag or container if you’re worried about the smell attracting unwanted attention.
In case you didn’t know, terpenes are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in cannabis and other plants. They’re responsible for many of its noticeable traits, including how it smells, tastes, and sometimes even for its colour.
You’ll find the following terpenes in the Sour Kush strain:
Euphoria and deep physical relaxation await those who consume Sour Kush—but that’s not all it has to offer. Many find that it leaves them feeling uplifted, giggly, hungry, energized, and creative. Not a bad combination, right?
Despite being rather potent, many users find this strain to be good for day-to-day use (but probably after work). At the same time, it’s important to note this strain has been known to leave you in a “couchlock” effect—after searching the cupboards for snacks, that is.
Starting slow and gradually working your way up as needed is always recommended, especially with Sour Kush. But, if being glued to the couch is what you’re going for, then this strain definitely packs enough of a punch to feel extra relaxed!
How does Sour Kush grow up to be the impressive strain that it is?
Nothing worth having comes easy, and growers of this strain know that all too well. Having somewhat of a complex cultivating process, it’s not for the rookie growers out there who don’t have experience with more challenging strains.
On average, the Sour Kush strain takes about nine to 10 weeks to flower thoroughly and become ready for harvesting. Early to mid-October tends to be the best timeframe, though that can vary depending on where you live, of course.
As for the climate requirements, a warmer, outdoor temperature is ideal. Cooler indoor temperatures can work in some cases, but aren’t recommended. Understandingly, this can make growing it in certain parts of Canada more difficult.
An average of 21 to 28 ounces per plant is the typical yield for outdoor growers.
If going sour is your definition of fun, then you’ll get a real kick out of Bermuda Sour thanks to its many similarities with the Sour Kush strain.
The two are essentially half-siblings—both share Sour Diesel as a parent. As you might expect, this is a case where good things run in the family.
Like its relative, Bermuda Sour packs quite the THC punch at around 28%. You’ll find that it has that similar diesel flavour with a citrus twist. Expect to feel many of the same effects, but to also have your sweet tooth satisfied!
If you enjoy Sour Kush, chances are you’ll like this one, too.
As you’ve learned over the course of this blog, the Sour Kush strain is a crowd-favourite for many reasons. It can produce awesome effects, looks great, and has an interesting aromatic profile sure to spice up your rotation.
Unfortunately, growing it isn’t the easiest. That’s why you’re better off heading to True North Cannabis Co. to get it for yourself at a great price!
