Backed by the legalization of recreational cannabis and high consumer demand from the global wellness industry, CBD sales have skyrocketed in the past two years. Because of its benefits, CBD-rich extracts, capsules, tinctures, edibles, beverages, and topicals are quickly becoming household items and all for good reason. According to Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA), the CBD market is close to reaching $2 billion, and its peak is yet to come.
In this post, we will discuss some lesser-known CBD facts that will make you appreciate it more!
5 CBD Facts That Will Surprise You

Short for “cannabidiol,” CBD is only one out of hundreds of cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Even with extensive research and studies focusing on this well-known cannabinoid, CBD remains misunderstood in some areas. While we are already aware of some general knowledge about CBD, such as its therapeutic properties, it’s important to know there is more to it than its calming effects.
Exciting CBD facts and discoveries about this popular cannabinoid are being revealed, and we are here to list some facts that you probably never heard of!
Let’s begin.
Fact 1: CBD is one of the fastest-growing industries in history
As mentioned before, CBD products are becoming increasingly common all over the world. The high demand associated with this substance has made the CBD industry one of the fastest-growing in history, with financial experts predicting its annual growth rate at 107%. In fact, the industry is expected to surpass the $10 to $20 billion revenue mark in the next few years, so it’s no surprise that more and more companies are jumping into the cannabis industry, with a specialized focus on manufacturing CBD products.
Fact 2: There is such thing as a “best way” to consume CBD
Cartridges, chocolates, beverages, tinctures, you name it. While there are a handful of CBD products on the market, there is actually a consumption method that yields the most effects.
Oil-based CBD products, such as soft gels, are most likely to provide the highest absorption in your body compared to other solid formats. Adding to that, food affects CBD bioavailability, with research stating that meals high in fat increase CBD blood levels by three to five-fold. For example, taking 25 mg of CBD with a pint of ice cream could feel like taking 75 mg of CBD on an empty stomach.
Fact 3: There are types of CBD oil in the market
It’s easy to assume that all CBD products are alike, when in reality, there are several types of CBD manufactured and infused into their final form.
When you buy a CBD product, it will fall under one of three categories:
- Full-spectrum – this type retains much of the cannabinoids and terpenes, and can still contain traces of THC.
- Broad-spectrum – has all terpenes and cannabinoids with all THC content removed.
- Isolate – the purest form of crystalline CBD or the “raw” oil that remains after all other compounds are removed from the cannabis plant.

Fact 4: CBD is pet-friendly
Did you know that CBD can be beneficial for our furry friends too? While there’s minimal research about the effects of CBD on dogs, there are studies that exist stating its beneficial effects. In these studies, it has been found that when ingested, CBD acts as a pain reliever from osteoarthritis-related pain and that it can improve mobility without giving serious side effects. This is one of the CBD facts that not only benefit us as pet owners, but our beloved animals too!
Another study states that CBD can ease anxiety caused by loud noises, and one more stating that CBD reduced seizures for dogs suffering from epilepsy. It’s not uncommon for pet owners to add CBD to their pet’s diets, with plenty of cannabis companies offering pet-specific CBD treats and oils. Even with all of this information and products readily available, be sure to ask your veterinarian about dosages, and if your CBD product can help your pet.
Fact 5: CBD aids recovery from substance abuse
Interesting results were revealed during a study conducted on rats that demonstrated the long-lasting therapeutic effects of CBD. It said that CBD has the potential to lessen the vulnerability causing a relapse during substance abuse recovery. These studies significantly stressed that CBD has the potential to treat addiction across many substances, such as cocaine, heroin, and alcohol. In the study, the participants displayed lower drug cravings after being given CBD.
