A Brief History of the Spinach GMO Cookies Strain

All great cookies have a fun and storied recipe, right? Don’t worry: the genetic history of this strain does not include the bad kind of GMOs (genetically modified organisms).

Spinach GMO Cookies is a unique fusion that seamlessly blends the best of its parent strains, Girl Scout Cookies and Chemdawg. The producers behind this masterpiece, Spinach, are one of Canada’s first recreational cannabis brands created by Peace Natural Project Inc. They have been producing medicinal cannabis to help medical marijuana patients in Canada relieve symptoms since 2013, but have more recently ventured into more varied use.

The GMO Cookies weed strain comes from a mysterious team of breeders known as Divine Genetics. This indica strain is THC-packed, containing upwards of 21-30% of the psychoactive ingredient. Its CBD levels are much lower at 0.1%.

Spinach GMO Cookies Strain Profile

Now that you know where it comes from, let’s break down its quality in more detail—we’ll cover its appearance, aroma, and more!

 An infographic depicting the GMO Cookies weed strain profile, including its aroma, flavours, genetics, and terpenes

Appearance:

This cannabis plant has light green, spade-shaped buds topped with a nice frosting of white trichomes and peppered with vibrant curly orange hairs. Cookies often look fun and exciting, and this strain is no exception.

Aroma and Flavours:

They don’t call it “GMO” for nothing. One whiff of this strain, and you’ll see that garlic, mushrooms, and onion dominate the senses. However, it’s not just a savoury and pungent garlic-forward notes you have to look forward to—a lovely sweet undertone balances out these aromas. You’ll find a hint of a diesel aroma in its profile, too.

In terms of flavour, your taste buds are in for a real treat thanks to its savoury and sweet profile. Imagine sweet garlic onion paired with a hint of mild, freshly baked cookies. Sounds strange? You’ll have to try it and see!

Terpene Profile:

Terpenes are naturally occurring substances and aromatic oils that give plants their smell, taste, and sometimes, colours. The following terpenes are present in the Spinach GMO Cookies strain, in order of most prominent:

  • Myrcene;
  • Caryophyllene;
  • Limonene;
  • Humulene; and
  • Nerolidol.

Strain Effects

Spinach GMO Cookies could be the strain for you if you’re seeking feelings of happiness, relaxation, euphoria, and an overall incredible body high. The potent indica strain can uplift you mentally and may also offer pain relief.

When consumed in high doses, Garlic Cookies promotes sleepiness—you might feel a bit sedated and end up locked to your couch. It’s best to commit to this strong body buzz when you don’t have much on your to-do list.

With its high THC levels, the Spinach GMO Cookies strain is definitely one for those with higher tolerance levels. As always, start low and go slow!

How the GMO Cookies Strain Is Grown

Garlic Cookies flowers are grown in an indoor facility in Staynor, Ontario that features a suspended hydroponic growing medium and LED lighting. Generally, this strain is also hang-dried and hand-trimmed.

Growing GMO Cookies using standard or feminized seeds can be quite tricky. This process is for those who want maximum potency and quantity from their harvest and involves manual lighting adjustment.

Its plants tend to be short to medium in height and have a flowering time of eight to nine weeks. If you’re a rookie grower who’s interested in cultivating GMO Cookies, then using auto-flowering seeds is the way to go. This process enables seeds to flower automatically regardless of the light cycle and will typically be ready for harvest in eight to nine weeks from when the seeds are planted.

You can expect a yield of 1.5 ounces per square foot of plant when grown indoors. Outdoor-grown plants will produce around two ounces per square foot.

A Similar Strain Worth Trying

Green Monster Breath is another strain you should check out—its lineage is actually a combination of GMO Cookies and Animal Cookies!

Touted by Spinach themselves as a “mad scientist’s nod” to these two strains, this indica-dominant bud packs a similarly pungent smell to its parent as well as high THC levels averaging 26-32%. However, this offering features an unmistakable sweet candied strawberry taste that might appeal more to some palettes. Give it a shot!
