Since the legalization of recreational cannabis in 2018, several colleges and universities in Canada have created programs dedicated to studying the plant.
In these programs, you can expect in-depth courses spanning a variety of industries, including medical, research, business, and agriculture, under the expert guidance of professionals in the industry, where you learn about the scientific qualities of your favourite plant and engage in a hands-on cannabis cultivation experience.
There is so much more to know about cannabis apart from its effects on the mind and body. That is why True North Cannabis Co., Ontario’s fastest-growing retail store, is here to share with you the different institutes in Ontario that offer cannabis education to budding cannabis lovers.
First on the list is McMaster University’s The Science of Cannabis. This continuing education program awards you a Certificate of Professional Learning in The Science of Cannabis. To earn this, you need to complete all of its three courses:
These courses introduce you to the scientific background of cannabis and its effects on the human body. At the same time, you’ll learn more about the medicinal use of marijuana.
Since the focus of this program leans more toward medicine, you’ll graduate with a deeper understanding of how cannabis is linked to treating medical disorders. The course curriculum is supplemented with expert talks, case studies, and facilitated group discussions.
If you decide to take this course, keep in mind that True North Cannabis Co.’s Hamilton dispensary is nearby—and we’re always here to help with some last-minute research!
Get a hands-on experience with cannabis cultivation when you enrol in the Cannabis Cultivation and Processing Program at Centennial College. This certificate program is designed to prepare students for an in-demand industry by providing them with in-depth knowledge and skills to succeed after they graduate.
From theoretical coursework related to cannabis laws and regulations, to a hands-on practical experience at a licensed cannabis facility, Black Rose Organics, your time here will allow you to see how cannabis seeds are grown and developed into sales.
Completing three semesters of the Cannabis Cultivation and Processing Program awards you a Centennial College certificate. Classes are online, but offsite practical courses are included for enhanced exposure to cannabis.
If you’re interested in learning the science behind cannabis, Fanshawe College offers a one-year graduate certificate program in Cannabis Applied Science! Enrolling in this intensive program will allow you to study analytical chemistry techniques, cannabis crop science, and microbiology.
Students of this program are immersed in the inner workings of the industry including new product development, propagation, and quality assurance. By exposing you to cutting-edge labs, Fanshawe College prepares you to contribute to the research and development of the cannabis industry.
To see what this program has to offer, here is a list of some of the courses you’ll get to take:
If you’re living in the London area, be sure to drop by True North Cannabis Co.’s Strathroy dispensary to take product knowledge to a whole new level. Whether you’re stocking up on great finds or simply taking a closer look into what top-quality cannabis products look like, our expert budtenders are ready to help.
Seneca College offers a part-time Cannabis Industry Studies Certificate Program. Its syllabus is perfect for enthusiastic learners who want to contribute to the development of the cannabis industry.
In this program, students learn in-depth about cannabis, its regulatory system, retail, and how it relates to health. Upon graduating, you’ll have expert knowledge about how the legalization of cannabis has shaped its growing industry. Simultaneously, expect to fully understand and articulate the different cannabis species and their effects on the body.
Another cannabis education program you should look into is the one offered at Seneca College. Their Cannabis Regulation and Quality Assurance Program is a one-year graduate certificate program that introduces you to the knowledge and expertise of grading and quality control of cannabis products. Because of this, you’ll have a keen eye for exceptional cannabis production.
This program also offers a work term in a formal environment, similar to an internship. Your time here will be equivalent to an entire semester since you must complete full-time work hours. The experience here can give you an idea of what it is really like to work in the cannabis industry.
The Commercial Cannabis Production Program at Niagara College is another cannabis cultivation course that is bound to interest you. This graduate program teaches the biological and cultural aspects of cannabis production. Its aim is to develop master growers who can cultivate cannabis to its full potential.
Aside from the agricultural side of this program, its comprehensive syllabus traverses everything about planning, execution, and quality assurance for cannabis. With an internship at a Health Canada Cannabis Production License Holder, it will give you an idea of how you can adapt to the innovation of this industry.
If you find yourself enrolled at this college, you’ll be glad to know that True North Cannabis Co.’s Welland store is just a short drive away! Stocking up on cannabis goodies and gaining expert knowledge from our budtenders is surely going to enrich your studies.
Jumping into cannabis education is no easy task because of how dynamic it is. Fortunately, True North Cannabis Co. is here to guide your studies! Our wide variety of cannabis products can help you better understand the versatility of the plant, from oils, to topicals, to concentrates, and of course, flowers.
