7 Botanical Gardens in Ontario for the Wandering Plant Lover

Being a plant lover isn’t only about growing and caring for plants at home, it’s also about learning how to grow in the best ways possible, making it a daily learning experience. While it has been scientifically proven that indoor plants are beneficial for humans in multiple ways, imagine what they can do on a grander scale.

Growing plants can be a bit of a chore, but inspiration can easily be regained by walking through acres of well-kept gardens that boast thousands of plant species.

Here are some splendid botanical gardens in Ontario that will fill your senses with colourful flowers and other eye-catching foliage.

  1.  Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens (Niagara Falls)

Boasting 99 acres of award-winning landscapes designed by the students of Niagara’s School of Horticulture, this attraction is truly one of the best botanical gardens in Ontario. Within the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, you’ll get to see Canada’s finest tree collection, as well as a world-renowned rose garden and many other pockets of lush beauty.

You’ll even get the chance to go inside a butterfly conservatory! Before you do so, stop by our Niagara Falls dispensary for an even more elated experience.

       2. Royal Botanical Gardens (Hamilton)

RBG is Canada’s largest botanical garden and one of the most revered ones around the globe. With 60 collections of more than 40,000 plants displayed in five main exhibitions, you’ll be overwhelmed with the variety and possibly—and think of the number of photos you’ll take!

True North Cannabis Co.’s Hamilton store is just a short 15-minute drive from this botanical beauty. Stock up on your favourite herb before appreciating nature’s masterpieces.

      3. Glenhyrst Gardens (Brantford)

Spanning 16 acres of gorgeous landscapes filled with colourful trees and flower species, this garden is the nesting grounds of Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant, Brantford’s hub for the local arts and culture scene. Upon his death in 1957, Edmund Cockshutt, the estate’s owner, had wished for his property to be a place where culture and the arts will eternally exist.

In 1886, the property officially became the Glenhyrst Art Gallery, a non-profit public gallery hosting various exhibitions, and workshops for local citizens.

      4.  Corby Rose Garden (Belleville)

If you’re into flowers, you’ll find the Corby Rose Garden a blossoming treat. It was initially owned by a wealthy English businessman named Henry Corby, who played a considerable role in nurturing and developing Belleville’s local community. In 1905, Corby donated the rose garden to the city, making it officially open to the public since then.

       5. Galt Horticultural Society Garden (Cambridge)

As the name of the garden suggests, the Galt Horticultural Society Garden showcases the pride and joy of its citizen’s green thumbs. Truly one of the most community-driven botanical gardens in Ontario, this wide space has dedicated areas for edible, non-edible, and decorative plants.

True North Cannabis Co.’s Cambridge Main Street location is just a short walk from this quaint riverside oasis! Come say hi before meandering over the Grand River.

      6. Sheriff Creek Wildlife Sanctuary (Elliot Lake)

A natural habitat for the area’s most valuable residents (mammals, birds, and reptiles) is the Sheriff Creek Wildlife Sanctuary. Its vast 182-acre area is home to plants that are native to the Elliot Lake area as well, making it one of the most unique botanical gardens in Ontario. Visitors can access the sanctuary by walking through its breathtaking trails.

Muskoka Lakes Gardens

      7.  Muskoka Lakes, Gardens & More (Gravenhurst)

A family-run garden bazaar, this popular attraction in Gravenhurst doesn’t only provide visual stimulation for plant aficionados, just one visit can be quite educational too. The friendly and knowledgeable staff of Muskoka Lakes Gardens will be more than willing to offer effective gardening tips that are useful in improving your home gardens.
